Priests serve God and his people in a variety of ways. Most diocesan priests are assigned to a parish. A great deal of parish ministry is sacramental-Baptisms, Masses, Marriages, Anointing the Sick, and Confessions. Not only is the priest involved in the celebration of the sacraments but also in assisting people in their preparation.
Funerals and helping families through grief is another important parish ministry. Priests in parishes also work in primary schools, colleges, and local hospitals.
A priest is entrusted with a specific pastoral ministry by his Bishop. He shares in the priesthood of his Bishop who has the responsibility for governing, teaching and sanctifying the people of the diocese.
